Getting to Miami

By Air: Miami International Airport (MIA) is a major hub for American Airlines with extensive connections throughout Latin America, Europe, and the USA. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL), 40 minutes north, is often cheaper and serves most major US carriers and international routes.

Airport to City: Miami International Airport is about 10–15 minutes from downtown Miami. The Miami Metrorail connects MIA to downtown and Brickell. Uber/Lyft from MIA to South Beach runs $25–40. From FLL to South Beach, expect $50–70.

By Train: Brightline high-speed rail connects Miami to Fort Lauderdale (30 min), Boca Raton, and West Palm Beach. Direct service to Orlando is available, making a Miami–Orlando road trip feasible without a car for city sections.

Hard Rock Stadium: World Cup Venue Guide

Hard Rock Stadium — home of the Miami Dolphins and Inter Miami CF — sits in Miami Gardens, approximately 20 miles north of South Beach and 15 miles north of downtown Miami.

Key Logistics:

  • Address: 347 Don Shula Dr, Miami Gardens, FL 33056
  • Parking: Extensive parking on-site, $40–80. Pre-purchase online.
  • Transit: The Miami-Dade Transit system does not directly serve the stadium. Metrorail + Metrobus combos are possible but complex. Rideshare is strongly recommended.
  • Rideshare: Designated zones clearly marked. Expect heavy surge pricing ($50–100) after Semifinal matches.
  • Express Shuttle: World Cup official shuttles from key Miami Beach and downtown hotels will be available — check the official FIFA2026.com site for routes.

Fan Zone: The stadium perimeter transforms into a massive fan village on match days, featuring international food courts, live entertainment, cultural activations, and giant screens.

Miami Beach: The World Cup Backdrop

South Beach isn't just a backdrop — it IS the Miami World Cup experience. The Art Deco Historic District along Ocean Drive and Collins Avenue is one of the most photographed streetscapes in the world.

Art Deco Historic District

Walk Ocean Drive from 5th to 15th Streets to see the pastel-colored 1930s Art Deco buildings. The best time is golden hour — the facades light up beautifully at sunset. The Art Deco Welcome Center (1001 Ocean Drive) offers guided walking tours.

South Beach Beach Life

Lummus Park Beach — the stretch of white sand behind Ocean Drive — is free to access. Rent a beach umbrella and chair ($30–50) and settle in. The water is warm, clear, and calm. Morning hours are best before the heat peaks at midday.

Lincoln Road Mall

A pedestrian mall running east–west through South Beach with excellent cafés, restaurants, shops, and people-watching. The Sunday Farmers Market is especially lively.

Wynwood Arts District

Just north of downtown Miami, Wynwood is a former warehouse district now covered in world-famous street murals. The Wynwood Walls (free to walk past, $12 to enter the garden) is the epicenter. Excellent cocktail bars and galleries surround it.

Miami Cuisine: A World-Class Food Scene

Miami's dining scene reflects its multicultural identity — Cuban, Haitian, Colombian, Caribbean, Peruvian, and Brazilian influences are everywhere.

Little Havana

The cultural heart of Miami's Cuban community. Calle Ocho (8th Street) is lined with Cuban restaurants, cigar shops, cafés, and music venues.

  • Versailles — The quintessential Cuban restaurant. Cuban sandwich, ropa vieja, tres leches. Open until 1am on weekends.
  • Ball & Chain — Live salsa music, mojitos, and excellent Cuban tapas. Best experienced at night.
  • La Carreta — 24-hour institution. Affordable, authentic, and always busy.

Design District & Brickell

For upscale dining, the Design District and Brickell (Miami's financial center) offer outstanding restaurants:

  • Novikov Miami — Japanese-Italian fusion, theatrical and delicious
  • Time Out Market Miami — 18 restaurants under one roof in Brickell City Centre

Seafood

Miami's proximity to the Atlantic and Gulf means exceptional seafood:

  • Joe's Stone Crab (South Beach) — Season runs October–May; off-season the menu shifts. But stone crab is legendary if you're here in time.
  • Garcia's Seafood Grille & Fish Market — Old-school waterfront dining in the Miami River neighborhood.

Must-See Miami Attractions

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens

A stunning Gilded Age Italian Renaissance villa on Biscayne Bay, once the winter home of industrialist James Deering. The formal gardens, grottos, and bay views are extraordinary. Open daily except Tuesday. Admission: $25 adults.

Everglades National Park (Day Trip)

One of America's great wilderness areas, just 45 minutes from Miami. Take an airboat tour to spot alligators, manatees, and exotic birds in the River of Grass. Everglades National Park entrance at Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center. Half-day or full-day tours available from Miami ($50–100).

Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM)

A world-class modern and contemporary art museum on Biscayne Bay. The building itself is stunning — hanging garden installations drape across the waterfront facade. Free on the first Thursday and Saturday of each month.

Key Biscayne

A short drive or causeway ride from downtown Miami, Key Biscayne offers beautiful beaches (Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park), a historic lighthouse, and a much more relaxed atmosphere than South Beach.

Brickell & Downtown Miami

The Manhattan of the South has transformed dramatically. Brickell City Centre, the Mary Brickell Village, and the waterfront Bayfront Park are all worth exploring. Catch the free Metromover around downtown for a bird's-eye orientation.

Hurricane awareness: June marks the start of hurricane season. Keep an eye on forecasts. Most visitors won't encounter issues, but it's worth knowing.

Sun protection: Miami's UV index is among the highest in the US. SPF 50+ sunscreen, hats, and UV clothing are essential.

Tipping: Standard US 18–20% at restaurants. Some places add automatic gratuity for groups.

Driving: Renting a car is useful for reaching Hard Rock Stadium and day trips (Everglades, Key Biscayne). South Beach itself is best navigated on foot or via Citi Bike rentals.

Safety: South Beach and Brickell are generally safe. Exercise standard urban caution in less touristy areas.
