Lisbon: The City of Seven Hills
Lisbon captivated me from the first tram ride. The pastel-colored buildings, the melancholic fado music drifting from restaurants, and the legendary pastéis de nata at Belém.
Algarve Cliffs
The Algarve coastline is more dramatic than any photograph can convey. At Benagil Cave, I kayaked into a sea cave with a collapsed ceiling that lets sunlight pour onto a hidden beach.
Sintra's Fairy-Tale Palaces
The Pena Palace looks like it was designed by a child with unlimited crayons and a vivid imagination. Every turret is a different color, and the surrounding forest feels enchanted.
Porto and the Douro Valley
Porto's riverside district, Ribeira, is all terracotta rooftops and port wine cellars. A day cruise up the Douro Valley through terraced vineyards was the perfect finale.
