Walking the Camino de Santiago: 35 Days of Discovery

Walking the Camino de Santiago: 35 Days of Discovery

Por Elena Rossi

Leaving Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port

The first day over the Pyrenees was the most physically demanding and emotionally overwhelming of my life. By the time I reached Roncesvalles, every muscle ached and I was already questioning my decision.

The Meseta

The vast Meseta plateau is where most pilgrims have their breakthrough. Days of flat, seemingly endless wheat fields strip away distractions until you're left alone with your thoughts.

Cathedral of Santiago

Seeing the spires of Santiago de Compostela Cathedral after 800 kilometers on foot brought tears I didn't expect. In the plaza, pilgrims from every country embraced like old friends.

Finisterre

I continued three more days to Finisterre — the ancient "end of the world." Watching the sunset from the lighthouse, I felt profoundly changed by the journey.
